Between Two Coasts

Steve Roberts was elected State Representative in 2016 to serve the people of Missouri’s 77th District in the city of St. Louis. He was recently selected by his colleagues to lead as the Chairman of the Missouri Legislative Black Caucus for the House and Senate. He is currently the Ranking Member on the Special Committee on Criminal Justice. Roberts also serves on the Judiciary , Utilities, and Workforce Development Committees.
Roberts is a fourth generation St. Louis native, whose parents and grandparents overcame segregation and discrimination to establish successful careers. His mother Eva Frazer became a distinguished doctor and his father a respected attorney, St. Louis Alderman, and successful businessman. It is from his parents that Roberts developed a strong sense of civic responsibility, social justice, and the desire to help make St. Louis an even better place to live.

Roberts holds a Bachelor of Science in Communication Studies and Psychology from the University of Miami (Florida) and received his law degree from Pepperdine University School of Law (California). While in law school, his experiences included: working in the U.S. Congress as a legislative intern, as a certified law clerk with the District Attorney’s Office in the City of Compton, California, and assisting the Counsel to Secure Justice in New Delhi, India, to help victims of violent sexual assault.
After graduating law school, Roberts joined AP Wireless Infrastructure Partners, LLC, as associate in-house counsel responsible for managing over 100 million dollars of company assets. Following the events in Ferguson, Steve returned to serve his community as a prosecutor for the city of St. Louis, where he participated in over a hundred cases from minor weapons offenses to homicides.
He is a member of the Missouri Bar and U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, and served as the founder and former President of the St. Louis chapter of the National Black Prosecutor’s Association; he is a lifetime member of the Mound City Bar Association and of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Roberts is also a 2nd Lieutenant serving in the Missouri Air National Guard.
In 2015, Roberts was honored for community service by the North County Community Outreach Center. He was also honored by the St. Louis Page Park Y Service Club International of the Monsanto Family YMCA and was the keynote speaker at their 7th Annual Founder’s Day Awards Program in December of 2015. In February of 2020, Lincoln University invited Roberts to deliver a keynote address as part of its “A Dream Fulfilled: The Presidential Lecture Series”.
